Keiichiro Hirano’s Eclipse Wins the Japan–U.S. Friendship Commission Prize!

We are pleased to announce that the English translation of Keiichiro Hirano’s Eclipse has been selected as a recipient of the Japan–U.S. Friendship Commission Prizes, awarded annually by the Donald Keene Center of Japanese Culture at Columbia University.

The award-winning translation, published by Columbia University Press in 2024, was completed by Brent de Chene and Charles De Wolf.

The Japan–U.S. Friendship Commission Prizes honor outstanding translations of modern or classical Japanese literature. The award recognizes the most distinguished translation of the year and highlights the importance of fostering literary exchange between Japan and the United States.

This recognition reflects both the international esteem of Hirano’s literary work and the exceptional skill of the translators.

We remain committed to bringing Keiichiro Hirano’s writings to a global audience and will continue to support the international dissemination of his works.
