Japan 2041. At that time, there is a social system called "Voluntary Self-Termination". People can decide the timing of ending their lives. Sakuya Ishikawa gig-works as a "Real Avatar," treating clients to vicarious experiences. He expects to live with his beloved mother forever, until he learns of her long-held wish for autonomothanasia, a voluntary death. When she dies in a falling drone accident, Sakuya orders her Virtual Figure produced. Now, through this AI replica of who his mother once was, he must get to the bottom of her real intention for having wanted to end her life, using the "Self-Termination System", despite supposedly being happy.
Disparity and division, cyberspace and reality, birth and the right to death, and the disappointments and wishes of those caught in between. Heart of Hearts is a fundamental reexamination of our current views on life and death and our attempts be better people in the future.
